Internship - Electronic & Controls Engineering - Summer 2024

The Electronic and Controls Engineering Intern will work alongside Electronics and Controls Engineers to develop control systems for internal Roush projects and external customers. The Electronic and Controls Engineering Intern develops simple control system software, writes software and electrical documentation, and assists with integration, commissioning and deployment of electromechanical control systems. This is a 40-hour-per-week paid internship position located in Livonia, MI.

As an Electronic and Controls Engineering Intern, you will:

  • Develop simple control system software, including software architecture and control algorithms
  • Write software documentation such as flowcharts, state diagrams, timing diagrams, pseudocode, theory of operations, and Unified Modeling Language (UML)
  • Write electrical design documentation such as schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings
  • Coordinate with other Roush fabricators and technicians to have custom electrical and mechanical assemblies built
  • Assist with gathering engineering data, including vehicle instrumentation, bench testing, and logging data for post processing and analysis
  • Assist with control system integration, commissioning, and validation tasks such as wiring installation, testing, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Write reports on testing and logged data for senior engineers

As an Electronic and Controls Engineering Intern, you will need:

  • Must be able to work a 40+ hour work week from May 2024 - August 2024
  • Must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in engineering: Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or Mechanical
  • Must have a minimum of Sophomore standing
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving history
  • Ability to read, understand and create electrical schematics, and a good understanding of electrical and electronics basics
  • Must be proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write concise technical reports
  • Initiative to work independently and handle several assignments simultaneously
  • Good time management skills to ensure projects are completed by deadline
  • Ability to absorb new technical assignments independently

A successful candidate may also have:

  • Automotive knowledge
  • Ability to operate an oscilloscope and other electronics test equipment
  • Experience from FSAE, SAE Baja, First Robotics, or other similar academic programs preferred
